The cost-of-living crisis continues to hit families on low incomes hardest. When schools close for the long summer holiday, many children lose access to free or subsidised meals, structured activity and everyday social contact. For families already under pressure, this can mean going without nutritious food, feeling isolated, worrying about money, and missing out on chances to learn and play. Children can return to school less confident, less engaged and further behind their peers.

Across the 2026 summer holidays, Firstsite will open its doors every weekday to families facing financial hardship. We will provide a full day of free creative sessions, movement and games, alongside a hot, healthy lunch for everyone attending. Professional artists will design activities around the NHS 5 Ways to Wellbeing – helping families connect with others, stay active, learn new skills, give and share, and take time to notice the present moment, all within a safe, welcoming environment.
