The Yorkshire Dales has the lowest tree cover of any National Park in the UK. Diseases, neglect, over grazing and lack of awareness all place a significant threat upon the valuable woodlands we have left. One third of all woodland wildlife species are in decline. Planting new trees and taking care of our existing woodlands is absolutely critical to help tackle climate change and nature loss, but we also need to educate, inspire and empower more people to care about and take action for them too.
It's vital that we create a more wooded landscape with greater species diversity in the Yorkshire Dales. To do this we’re working with farmers, land managers and communities to create new woodlands and hedgerows, and provide support to manage existing woodlands so they can thrive. Through volunteering opportunities that enable people to be involved in all aspects of our woodland work, we aim to inspire a whole community of tree lovers who can sustain our wonderful woodlands in the future.
