In Kasese, vulnerable women and girls, many experiencing domestic violence and early marriage, are learning agroforestry skills that support sustainable livelihoods, support gender equity and reduce the risk of domestic violence.

Beneficiaries
Across the world, women are disproportionately affected by climate change due to underlying socioeconomic, political, and legal barriers woven into the fabric of society. In Kasese, gender inequality, a prevalence of domestic violence and high rates of early marriage have undermined the rights and wellbeing of women in the area. Farming methods, deforestation and soil erosion have left the area ecologically fragile and vulnerable to natural disasters such as flooding, drought and landslides.
Women and girls will be trained in agroforestry, sustainable land management, and leadership skills. They will plant trees, grasses, and bamboo to stabilise the land, and learn how to create kitchen gardens, providing a sustainable source of nutrition and income. Trained Gender Champions will promote gender equity across the region. This project has been co-created with our local partner, Alpha Women Empowerment Initiative, and extends a successful solution to 3 villages in significant need.
