Rural isolation, low incomes, and poor transport links already restrict access to culture in Cumbria. Rising costs, funding cuts, and fewer visitors now threaten the sector's ability to deliver essential, inclusive programmes and maintain venues, with 61% of museums planning to cut services this year. Without support, many underrepresented communities, families, and schools risk losing opportunities for connection, creativity, and wellbeing, endangering the future of our cultural heritage.
Lakeland Arts will continue to deliver inclusive, collections-inspired, locally focused cultural programmes covering all formal learning stages from early years to Higher Education through in-house workshops, outreach, and digital engagement. Our three venues have broad appeal, engaging underrepresented communities that face isolation and financial barriers. Funding will empower us to strengthen community partnerships and safeguard Cumbria’s cultural heritage for future generations.
