In Southwark, 18% of school-aged children have additional needs (Southwark Council, 2022). These include physical and mental health, learning, and undiagnosed needs. In May 2025, families accessing King’s College Hospital NHS Trust services were waiting up to 33 weeks to receive much-needed therapy. Family members often feel isolated and experience mental ill health; there can be significant financial strains on parents and carers too.

Growing Hope Brockley provides free therapy for families within Southwark and Lewisham, including children's counselling and occupational therapy. We also run groups for parents and siblings to process their experiences of living with a child with additional needs. We provide psycho-education to parents on social emotional and mental health conditions and strategies that they can use as they assist their children to thrive. Finally, we offer prayer to those who want it.
