1 in every 29 children loses a parent or sibling, that's a child in every classroom. Childhood bereavement has a detrimental effect on children’s wellbeing and mental health into adulthood. However, with your support children can receive bereavement counselling to help them have a brighter future.

Compton Care is a hospice which cares for adults. Following bereavement, patients’ children and grandchildren tell us they feel isolated, struggle at school, feel disenfranchised, have disrupted sleep, change in appetite, anxiety and feelings of stigma and shame. Without bereavement support some of those feelings will affect their future; they may act out, grow up too quickly, worry about their own mortality and develop adult depression and mental health problems.

Bereavement care plays a crucial role in helping children heal and find solace during their grief journey. Your support will help children receive bereavement counselling by Compton’s vibrant Children’s and Young Person’s counselling service. Sessions by highly trained and experienced counsellors can happen before and after the death of a loved adult, helping children prepare and understand what is happening, exploring their feelings in a structured empathetic way, giving them better prospects.
