You can help communities where leprosy is causing chronic ulcers, blindness and amputation because diagnosis is not happening early enough. With a hospital boat, we take leprosy care to people living in extreme poverty, with polluted water, no roads or ability to access healthcare.

People are suffering long term effects of leprosy - including chronic ulcers, blindness and amputation – because diagnosis is not happening early enough. Leprosy is endemic here; people live in remote communities in extreme poverty with polluted water and weak immune systems. There are no roads and limited access to healthcare or any facilities. The disabilities caused by undiagnosed leprosy impact their ability to work, support their family, source food or contribute to the community.
Our delivery partners enable earlier diagnosis and treatment to minimise the risk of long term disabilities occurring, and prevent the disease spreading. They travel to each remote community by hospital boat to check every person for signs of leprosy. Where possible, people are treated by the medical team on the boat which has a range of medicines, equipment, devices, and accommodation. For more complex treatment, patients are transferred to a medical facility, which involves days of travel.
