A young carer is a child or young person under the age of 18 who helps to look after a family member or loved one with an illness, disability, mental health condition or addiction. We currently have 1,526 registered Wiltshire young carers, which is the highest number in our 27-year service history. Without appropriate interventions young carers face a range of inequalities. For example; Isolation, an educational attainment gap & increased likelihood of experiencing mental health issues.

In the last year, 451 Wiltshire young carer’s accessed our face-to-face respite & breaks activities, with an average attendance of 4.5 group sessions each. We need to raise funds to continue & expand this provision, to meet growing local needs. These activities are hugely important to young carers, providing them with a chance to have a break away from their caring roles, have fun, develop skills & make new friends. “I’m not alone, I have friends now & actvities I enjoy.” -A Young Carer.
