Northern Stage wants to support 630 young people who wouldn’t normally get to experience the magic and creativity of live theatre this Christmas. Your donation will cover free tickets for school groups and local families, hot meals and wraparound activities after the show.

In North East England poverty is rising and disproportionately affecting children. In 2021 24% of young people were living in poverty (Newcastle City Council). Arts education is in crisis with a 47% drop in entries for Arts based GCSEs since 2010 (Campaign for the Arts). Up to 20% of young people aged 8-25 have poor mental health (NHS England). These factors combined mean that our young people are losing vital opportunities to access and build creativity, confidence and essential skills.

Northern Stage will contact schools and families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend a Christmas show and invite them to experience the magic of a Christmas performance, for free, with enhancement activities afterwards. Families will also receive a complimentary hot meal. 630 people will be able to access a memorable creative experience for free. Creativity boosts well-being by providing avenues for self-expression, emotional regulation and social connection.
