We’re building safe, gender-separated toilets and handwashing stations at Delo Primary School to improve health, dignity and attendance for 560 children. Beside improved accessibility and sanitation, we’ll provide menstrual hygiene materials and girls’ empowerment workshops to drive lasting impact.

Delo Primary School in rural Ethiopia has no functioning toilets. The old pit latrines collapsed, creating health risks, undermining dignity, and disrupting learning. All 560 students and 10 staff resort to using the field. Poor sanitation spreads disease and causes girls to miss school during their period. In this low-income farming community, with only one school, safe sanitation is essential for good attendance.
We will build safe, gender-separated toilet blocks using durable locally sourced concrete blockwork, washable surfaces, lockable doors and handwashing stations. The female block will include a private, welcoming menstrual hygiene space. There will be accessible toilets for students with disabilities. We will strengthen the girls’ club by providing materials and reusable sanitary pads, running empowerment workshops and connecting leaders to our girls’ education school cluster in the region.
