Samaritans prevents suicide through the power of human connection. Last year, we answered more than 3 million calls for help. Help us fund a solution to increase our over-night capacity, so no one has to go through their toughest moments alone.

Every 90 minutes someone in the UK dies by suicide. It's the leading cause of death of people under 35 and middle-aged men. Our data shows that calls we receive during the night are more likely to share suicidal feelings. It’s a time when people can feel most helpless and alone, with nowhere to turn when everyone is asleep and other services are closed. We urgently need to increase our helpline capacity during the night, so we can answer more calls for help.

We need your support to pilot a new, flexible and accessible way for volunteers to give their time. For the first time we’ll offer a small group of volunteers, who are unable to travel to a Samaritans location during the night, the option of answering calls to our helpline from home. We’ll give them the tools, skills and technology to do this safely and securely, which will be a significant innovation to our helpline. With more volunteers there, we can have more lifesaving conversations each year.
