This project actively teaches the social-emotional skills that many children are struggling with, especially of they have Social Communication challenges such as those in Autism Spectrum Conditions. We will train staff and model the project so that they can continue to use it after funding ceases.

Young children are struggling with social-emotional skills for a wide variety of reasons; skills that they need for life and that support positive relationships within the family, community, nursery, school, etc. The inability to manage relationships well sets children up for future challenges, eg lack of friends, isolation, struggling in school, and mental health challenges; where children have had a tricky start in life, for whatever reason, being actively taught these skills is critical.
Our Ffrindiau Annwyl Project will be delivered in Flying Start Centres and primary schools in the top 10% of deprived areas in Wales. We have already run this project successfully in nurseries and schools. Staff have been amazed at the difference in children including their ability to focus, share, take turns, and enjoy each other's company. This project is informed by Theraplay, an evidence-based intervention for families at risk and for children with autism or developmental delay.
