Through connection, compassion, and care, we ensure no one faces breast reconstruction surgery due to breast cancer alone. Keeping Abreast provides personal support through emotional, practical, and peer-led support as what can be a stressful and isolating time often impacting mental wellbeing.

Around 55,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with Breast Cancer every year. These stats are a minimum figure as they don’t include those with an increased hereditary risk or delayed surgery. 1 in 5 women feel unsupported in their decision-making regarding breast reconstruction due to cancer (Source Breast Cancer Now). Putting yourself back through surgery can be a difficult decision and women with breast cancer are more likely to have symptoms of anxiety and depression as a result.

We offer personal support to each person, this helps them get the best support and helps us minimise waste of resource. We may suggest they attend a face to face support group around the country where they can see real life surgery results. These are run by our support volunteers (approx 200 volunteers currently), watch our real-life surgery results on our website, talk to one of our volunteers over the phone or attend our monthly online mindfulness sessions.
