BYMT aims to widen participation in theatre performance and enable those currently underrepresented to engage in new music theatre making. We achieve this by delivering engagement activities with children & young people, offering places on our life-changing theatre projects free of charge.

Theatre is a vital educational & cultural resource, which improves health and well-being. As deprivation rises, arts engagement drops, mirrored by GCSE entries in performing/expressive arts falling by approx 47% since 2010. Research highlights an “entitlement gap”; young people from wealthier backgrounds are twice as likely to participate in arts activities. Working‑class young people are four times less likely to enter the creative industries, a grim outcome of the marginalisation of the arts.

BYMT’s campaign tackles social & economic inequality by providing fully funded participatory arts experiences, ensuring young people from all backgrounds can explore their creative potential. We solve the problem by offering engagement in new music theatre and supporting participants through to professional-level performance. Partnering with schools, colleges, and community groups in deprived areas, the campaign helps remove financial and social barriers and evidences the benefits of creativity.
