Bajura is one of the most remote districts of Nepal, with an incomplete road, often blocked in winter, access is challenging. The local health services have budgets for medicine, however they are struggling due to a lack of staff and difficult transportation. Over the last 3 years we have increased services. More women are now getting the antenatal care they need, there are less malnourished children (17% to 2%). We are starting to hand over services to the government.

By working with local government health staff our Auxiliary Nurses Midwives (ANMs) will be able to support government staff with access to extra resources and information. Increased resources allows for community outreach work and extra capacity. With a well resourced handover period, transferring services back to government will be more sustainable. Acute malnutrition is decreasing. It is essential that this continues to see a reduction in chronic malnutrition (stunting).
