We use the power of radio and podcasts to support women and girls at HMPYOI Styal, and to reach women in prisons across the country. Through this project, we will provide training, mentoring, and a safe space for women to re-find their voices and develop new skills. Their audio work goes on to inspire others, via National Prison Radio, helping women in prison feel part of a community and stay connected with family. Together, we’re paving creative pathways towards brighter futures after release.

Beneficiaries
Women in prison are some of the most marginalised in society - many have faced trauma, abuse, and lack qualifications or support. With limited opportunities on release, 44% are re-convicted within a year. Our project at HMPYOI Styal helps women rebuild their lives through creative training, mentoring, and confidence-building but the impact doesn’t stop there. The shows they produce reach women across England and Wales via National Prison Radio, helping listeners feel seen, connected, and supported.
Our charity equips women in prison with creative, technical, and personal development tools to build brighter futures. Inside HMPYOI Styal, they take part in hands-on radio production, develop vital skills like teamwork and communication, and grow in self-worth. The women also produce the Family and Friends Request Show - a National Prison Radio programme made by women with lived experience of prison and led by Faye, who began working with us during her sentence and now leads this work after release. Their broadcasts strengthen family bonds and help women in prison across the country access support, community, and hope. We also support women’s transition post-release - connecting them with paid work and real opportunities in media and production. Alumni like Faye and Scout have gone on to win awards and build careers, proving that creativity inside can lead to life-changing possibilities beyond the prison gates.
