16.4% of Oxford’s population identify as having a disability (2021 census) but only 10% of Modern Art Oxford visitors describe themselves as D/deaf or having physical or mental conditions; 20% as neurodivergent. 40% of participants are referred by local charities working with vulnerable and disabled people. Modern Art Oxford is raising funds to ensure every visitor feels welcome thanks to a programme and visitor experience that is accessible, inclusive and reflective of diverse groups locally.

Modern Art Oxford will develop and refresh resources from sensory maps and packs to BSL experiences, to ensure all visitors enjoy a rewarding experience of the highest quality, without differentiation. The Ground Floor Gallery will feature exhibitions co-created with local groups and artists, reflecting and engaging the local population. In 2026, this will include the Shadowlight Artists, a collective of learning disabled artists based in Oxford, and young people impacted by parental imprisonment.
