The poor in Durban don't have free healthcare like us in the UK. The main aim of the Denis Hurley Association(DHA) is to support the work of colleagues at the Denis Hurley Centre(DHC) in Durban as a Community Centre for the benefit of poor and needy persons. The centre clinic costs c.£8.7k/month

To cover the cost of running the DHC Clinic for 1 month. The Clinic also provides outreach services off-site and relies on donations to survive. Each month over 2,000 people are treated. The fully-absorbed cost covering salaries, medicines, rent, utilities and training is c£4.35 for each patient interaction. The DHC works with people of all faiths and none, particularly helping homeless people, those with addiction problems, urban unemployed and refugees. All services are free of charge.
The DHA want to raise as much as possible to continue the valuable work of the Centre in supporting the ongoing struggles faced by people in Durban. The DHC receives no financial support from the South African Government and hence the importance of the work of the DHA. Monies raised will go directly towards supporting running costs of the clinic and to provide a safe space ensuring no person is denied admission to any services regardless of age, gender, race, national origin or religion.
