Living Streets is the UK charity for everyday walking. Our mission is to encourage walking/wheeling and make our streets better; tackling barriers such as pavement parking, speeding and a lack of crossings. We advocate for safe, accessible streets and encourage walking for short, local journeys.

A society that doesn’t walk is disconnected, less healthy, less safe and a less equal place to live, plagued by pollution and congested roads. Barriers to walking include obstructed, poor pavements. Physical inactivity is a public health crisis. Air pollution causes an estimated 29,000 premature deaths per year 38% of fatalities and 25% of serious injuries on roads in England are pedestrians – people from ethnic minority groups and deprived areas are 3 x more likely to be casualties.

We want a nation where walking is the natural choice for local journeys; free from congested roads, pollution, reducing preventable illnesses and social isolation. Our key priorities: Working with children to build healthy walking habits for life and educate on the importance of advocating for better streets. Working with community groups to improve walkable realm for them. Advocating for an end to pavement parking across the UK so streets become more accessible for all.
