There is no provision of quality music education for children experiencing low income in Manchester. Children have little or no opportunity to learn an instrument, own an instrument, or access music education/cultural experiences during critical formative years, especially due to diminished music education in the school curriculum. This denies each child access to music education and means they will miss out on the many personal, social, and well-being benefits of learning an instrument.
£16,200 will deliver 720 exceptional, 1:1 instrumental lessons for 24 children on Olympias’ Learn to Play programme over a full year. Professional musicians deliver lessons in the heart of the community at Longsight Library. Olympias fully supports each child with a host of wrap-around activities to support their development such as cultural trips, funding instrument repairs, books and exams. Importantly, all 24 children can learn with Olympias for as long as they wish.
