Much of the RSN’s 10,000+ historic embroideries and archive objects remain uncatalogued, inaccessible and at risk in unsuitable storage lacking climate control and space. This priceless heritage spans 1,300 years. It includes rare, global textile art and designs by artists like William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones Without urgent preservation these treasures may be lost to pests, decay, or neglect—denying public access, academic research, and creative inspiration for future generations.
We will preserve and digitise approximately 14,000 unique items by cataloguing, photographing, and housing them in secure, climate-controlled storage spaces. This work enables public online access, supports global research and protects fragile textiles and paper from damage. By reorganising archive spaces and relocating library collections, we’ll improve access, storage and management—advancing our mission to safeguard and share embroidery heritage for generations to come.
