Autism is a lifelong condition that affects how autistic people think, communicate and interact with other people. They may find social interactions stressful, confusing and tiring and become overwhelmed by loud and busy environments due to sensory processing differences. Many rely on fixed routines and intense personal interest to help them cope. Autistic people are more likely to struggle with anxiety, loneliness, depression, eating disorders, and mental health issues and to die prematurely.
Autism Berkshire supports autistic people of all ages and their families by providing services that will make a difference for them, improving their quality of life and empowering them by increasing their self-confidence and independence. We do this by providing information and advice through an autism-specific Helpline, running workshops, courses and social & activity groups, working with local councils, health, education and employment services and issuing the Thames Valley Autism Alert Card.
