Across the globe, human rights defenders are being threatened, harassed, jailed and killed simply for speaking truth to power. States, corporations and criminal groups deploy violence and fear to silence them. Women, Indigenous and environmental defenders face especially brutal retaliation, all whilst cut off from protection, resources, and justice. The power imbalance they face is stark and growing. Without protection, entire movements risk being extinguished.

PBI provides 'holistic protective accompaniment' to threatened activists in dangerous contexts. Our 'unarmed bodyguards' prevent attacks on environmental and human rights defenders so they can continue campaigning. PBI also empowers brave activists through training in risk management, wellbeing and advocacy. And we campaign alongside them for changes in the policies and practices that help reduce abuses in the long-term. We keep human rights defenders safe and heard so that they can make change.
