The Fifth Trust is fundraising for a fully accessible Tipi to create an Outdoor Active hub where our students - adults with learning disabilities - can learn new skills like bushcraft, fire-making, carving, and woodland management all year-round.

Of 869,000 UK adults with learning disabilities, only a small minority access work or day services. 88% remain at home, isolated and under-stimulated, with limited opportunities to take part in meaningful activities, develop friendships, and lead the sort of fulfilled lives most people take for granted. This has a considerable impact on individuals and their families – especially where financial burdens add to the emotional strain of family carers who get little or no respite.

The Fifth Trust’s person-centred day services are transformative – 96% of our students with learning disabilities say they feel happy and proud of their work. Most attend weekly, choosing from enriching activities like woodwork, pottery, and horticulture. Expanding Outdoor Active will offer inclusive, year-round outdoor learning that builds skills and improves wellbeing. Outdoor learning also reduces stress and boosts physical health through meaningful, nature-based experiences.
