According to the UK Music Workforce Diversity Surveys 2020-24, the music industry has lost 18.1% of racially minoritised and working-class musicians since the pandemic. Many are leaving due to financial pressures as they can no longer afford to be musicians amid the rising cost of living and limited performance opportunities. We're at risk of being left with an industry that's even less representative of our society, and losing a generation of talented, passionate musicians.

Beyond the Mix is our new programme that directly addresses our mission to level the playing field for aspiring jazz inspired musicians from minoritised backgrounds. Over 6 months, we'll nurture and champion 8 emerging musicians by developing their skills in marketing, promotions, finance and career management through mentoring from established industry professionals and access to industry networks, and seed funding to develop performance opportunities including rehearsal time and venue hire.
