The legislation that protects bats is at risk, which is threatening recent population recovery and endangering bat species at risk of extinction. We want to build a strong policy foundation that reduces the damage of human activities on bats and their habitats.

The UK is at a critical juncture in terms of environmental policy. There are powerful vested interests lobbying for deregulation around land use practices and development - two of today’s main threats to UK bats. The proposed changes will weaken the protection of bat species putting them more at risk of extinction.
Policy work requires sustained capacity to build relationships, credibility and effective coalitions working to amplify the voice of BCT and the wildlife NGO's. Additionally, having dedicated policy staff to undertake background work will free up our senior team to deliver more high level, face to face influencing, further enhancing the impact of our policy interventions.
