There are more than 2,000 young carers in Kingston who look after a family member living with an illness, disability or addiction. Caring responsibilities can have a massive toll on a young carers education, their own physical and mental health, not to mention their future life opportunities. Nearly half (48%) of young carers registered with our service report they are struggling with their mental health due to the pressures of being a carer.
Kingston Carers Network's Young Carers Project equips young carers with the skills, information and support they need to navigate their caring responsibilities. We also provide respite activities to young carers during the school holidays. Following the 'five ways to wellbeing' framework our respite activities enable young carers to take a break from caring, connect and build friendships with their caring peers, and above all, help them enjoy their right to a happy, healthy childhood.
