Imagine never hearing your child’s voice. Imagine them not being able to tell you how their day was or what story they’d like at bedtime. For families supported by Diverse Abilities, this is reality. Every child at our specialist school is non-verbal and has profound communication challenges. They are unable to communicate pain, needs, or emotions, and their potential and personality can’t be fully realised. This can lead to great distress and isolation and is heart-breaking for families.

We provide speech and language therapy to all pupils at our specialist school, delivered by a therapist and assistant who work closely with healthcare, teaching staff and families. Our dedicated team enables children to find their 'voice' using a personalised approach and a range of communication strategies including affective communication, sign language, eye-gaze, touch, personalised communication books, and much more. We tailor every approach to each child’s unique abilities and needs.
