Evidence & data supports positive impact of the arts on children/young people. We want all local communities from different backgrounds to access exceptional arts experiences. Birmingham is Europe’s youngest city (40% u/25) but struggles with 40% of all children living in poverty & low cultural engagement. We are determined to meet high-quality cultural provision gap so that everyone can develop creative skills, benefit from progression opportunities & build stronger communities through theatre.
Hippodrome Education Network (HEN) annually provides 30,000 children/young people in 30 local partner schools/colleges (80% located in the UK’s 10% most deprived areas) the chance to experience live theatre, participate & grow through creativity. To extend arts opportunities beyond HEN, we want to expand our Musicals, SEN & Youth Theatres, deepen our Young Advocates leadership programme with festival placements/youth co-curated festival stage & widen youth arts engagement in community settings.
