We are developing the outdoor space at our Hub in central Watford. We want to include resources for children and adults with learning disabilities to enjoy, learn, experience and share.

Beneficiaries
People with a learning disability have worse physical and mental health than people without a learning disability. On average, women with a learning disability die 23 years younger than women in the general population. On average, men with a learning disability die 19 years younger than men in the general population (LeDeR, 2023; ONS, 2022). They are often isolated and have limited access to outdoor space and activity which could help address mental and physical health issues.
Watford Mencap is developing a range of new facilities and resources at our Hub in central Watford. Alongside our safe and enclosed garden, we are constructing a softplay barn for childrens' play, an allotment, accessible greenhouse, story telling seating, youth club zone with great wifi and fire-pit, shaded decking area, sensory planting and accessible pathways. Our experienced staff can support people to enjoy nature, learn skills, be active and socialise together.
