Almost 7% of people in Hampshire who died in 2019 were admitted to hospital for emergency treatment at least 3 times in the final 3 months of their life. We know that emergency hospital admissions increase pressure on NHS services, which are stretched further over winter. Many people’s preferred place of care would be at home, but many of those at end of life struggle to get the care they need at night and on weekends. Around 25% of those needing palliative care in England do not receive it.

Mountbatten’s specialist Community Nurses provide 24/7 care, helping those across our community access palliative care in the comfort of their own homes, day and night, including rapid response when their conditions deteriorate. Even over Christmas, Mountbatten’s nurses will continue to provide pain and symptom management, and psychological/emotional support, not only for patients but for families. Funding from the Big Give, will ensure no one spends their last Christmas in discomfort or alone.
