The Festival will introduce hundreds of children across England to the thrill of live performance. By partnering with mainstream primary and SEND schools in areas with limited arts access, it will build creativity, confidence and teamwork, and open up the magical world of the arts to young people.

There is clear evidence that engagement with music and the arts supports children’s wellbeing, mental health and educational attainment. Yet in primary schools across the UK, music provision is in serious decline. As highlighted by the Fabian Society and A New Direction, too many schools lack the resources - and trained teachers - to deliver meaningful music / theatre experiences. For children in low-income areas or with disabilities creative opportunities are especially limited or even absent.
Working with state mainstream and SEND schools in regions identified by our partners as underserved by the arts, we introduce primary school children to opera. Using a discovery led approach developed over ten years, we involve the children in the creation and performance of bite-size works that reflect their lives and interests. Opera unites multiple artforms – music, movement, design, drama and more – with magical results, making it the perfect vehicle for children’s discovery of the arts.
