Since 2001, Mechanics for Africa has trained over 700 young Zambians in automotive engineering, equipping them to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. Through successful fundraising, we have historically provided all students with a scholarship amounting to 85% of their fees and asked them to commit to pay the remaining 15%. However now we are prioritising applications from the very poorest communities, we are finding more and more prospective students are unable to pay this.

We wish to secure more funding so that all students are able to access our Student Hardship Fund. The Hardship Fund is for those students who struggle to fund their student contribution or who face situational difficulties during their time with us. By enrolling on our work programme, they earn money from MfA's Hardship Fund to pay their student contribution by working around the campus, either at weekends or during the term breaks.
