The impact of misinformation is felt by everyone. When our politicians and media make and share falsehoods, and when misleading information is spread online, we all suffer. This year, we've seen increasing hostility from the US government towards fact checking, and this has led to major internet companies reducing their support. These worrying developments mean the work of fact checkers is even more important.
We have been vocal in opposing the current narrative. We’re an impartial charity, but we will not be impartial about the principle that facts matter. We fact check claims made by politicians, public institutions and journalists, and viral online content; giving millions access to the truth. By asking people to correct the record when they get things wrong, and by developing world-leading technology to tackle misinformation on a global scale, we reduce its spread and the harm it causes.
