Widespread inflation and food shortages are affecting the poorest families in Kenya. We provide hot daily meals to 1,500 of the most deprived children at 9 feeding centres set within slum schools. It transforms their health, school attendance and performance, which enables them to earn a living.

The majority of Kenyans live in poverty. Thousands regularly starve or rely on food aid. This project provides a hot daily meal for 1500 children who regularly do not eat all day. Many suffer from chronic malnutrition, which results in stunting and slow physical development. They have poor school attendance, limited social skills and low educational performance. Hunger increases their levels of aggression and anxiety, causing bad behaviour and disruption in school and their communities.

We provide and equip a simple kitchen and feeding area within slum schools, staffed by a cook and supervised by a social worker. We provide the food ingredients and fuel for cooking. Teachers help with the distribution of the meals. Children who would otherwise starve are fed. Having the feeding programmes within schools encourages attendance and improves the children’s health and educational achievement, giving a path out of poverty.
