We are a grassroots, volunteer-powered charity that understands the enormous power that reading and books hold in shaping children’s lives. We are passionate about enabling all young people, regardless of circumstance, to enjoy book ownership and access the many benefits of reading for pleasure.

There are circa one million children in the UK who do not own a book of their own and by age 11, those from book-poor homes lag 12 months behind their peers in terms of language/literacy development. Books are vital for children. In fact, research has shown that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s life outcomes. We want every child to have access to inspiring reading material, expanding their perspective on the world and helping them to fulfil their potential.
Book ownership has been directly linked with improved mental health amongst children and a greater propensity to read for pleasure, whilst reading fluency itself has a significant impact on children’s successful progression through education. We run book gifting events that are inclusive, joyful and have a tangible impact on every family that participates. We ensure that all the new and pre-loved books donated to us are put straight into the hands of the children that need them most.
