Funds raised will contribute to the costs of running social therapeutic horticulture courses, core costs, and the costs of building a Gardeners’ Hut at our Walled Garden, providing shelter and a warm dry space for tea, cake, and the all-important conversations and connections that result.

There is more demand for mental health support in BANES than can be routinely provided by mental health services & charities, and supported referrals to nature-based activities are proven to improve health outcomes. For the 12 months ending January 2025, our Gardeners presented with the following challenges: 85% were struggling with depression, 74% with anxiety, 48% had low confidence, 37% felt isolated and 26% were struggling with trauma. Around 50% of adult referrals have been unemployed.
In the safe space of a garden and working in small groups, our Gardeners are taught horticultural skills and gain experience of gardening in a variety of settings, learning social skills to help them overcome isolation, build relationships, and increase their confidence and self-esteem. We offer a range of horticultural opportunities, including garden maintenance, vegetable and flower growing, orchard work, and a Herbs & Nature group. We help individuals flourish and live life to the full.
