Participants of our Summer Camps and NT Connections Festival have requested year-round activities to develop performance skills and self-confidence. We will launch a Youth Theatre Company offering subsidised places for families on low incomes, and access support for participants with disabilities.

A 2024 DCMS youth participation survey found 33% of young people had not engaged in arts, sport, youth clubs or any group or community based activity over the previous year, only 45% felt there were enough clubs and activities activities in their area. The arts offer in schools is rapidly declining, 42% of schools offer no music GCSE, 41% no drama GCSE & 84% offer no dance GCSE. Arts and creativity are critical for imaginative thinking, self-expression, communication skills and self-confidence.
We will launch a youth arts company providing theatre and music training led by a professional theatre director, backed by a wider creative team. The group will meet on Tuesday evenings during term time and will work towards a termly outcome which can include a sharing in our Studio Theatre or Creation Space. Over Spring Term the group will create a show as part of the National Theatre Connections Programme. Free or subsidised places will be available to those from families on low incomes.
