In Tower Hamlets, 1/2 young people and 1/3 older people live in poverty, making it hard for them to participate in local educational, cultural and social life. Lack of opportunity to fully take part in society exacerbates loneliness for all ages, affecting mental and physical health. Research suggests loneliness is as unhealthy as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Loneliness & isolation means trust and mutual understanding can break down. Young and old lead parallel lives, never meeting neighbours.

We will banish loneliness and boost intergenerational relationships through our pioneering arts work. Older and younger people will collaborate with artists on high quality projects including visual arts and photography, filmmaking and poetry. The process brings joy, encourages interaction, breaks down barriers, increases well-being and builds stronger, connected communities. Older and younger people will discover their own creative solutions to the problems they share and face.
