Children today face numerous life challenges. Rising anxiety and mental health difficulties are compounded by the impact of the cost of living crisis, with more families entering poverty than ever before and reductions to school budgets. Too many children - including young carers, disabled children or those with additional needs, or those in financial hardship – miss out on the improvement to wellbeing, communication, confidence, and overall joy that arts engagement brings.
Polka is a theatre & community hub where all children can access life-enhancing creativity. Our welcoming gardens & play areas are free & open 6 days/week. Our community initiatives include giving 21% of theatre tickets & 50% of workshop places for free to families in need; activities with local groups; community centre & hospital workshops; local schools' literacy projects; a drama club for young people in challenging circumstances; & free meals for those facing food insecurity.
