Acorns steps in to care for children approaching the end of their lives, and their families, making this time as nurtured, comfortable, therapeutic and joyous as we possibly can. We support over 90 of these cases every year, yet only one third of our income is from statutory services like the NHS.

A parent never imagines that their child will be diagnosed with a life-threatening condition. “It’s devastating knowing that your child is going to die,” Christine, Hannah’s mum. At Acorns, the vital need for end-of-life care has increased by 47%. Last year, we cared for more than 90 life limited children and their families. We care for children at the ‘category 4’ highest level of care needs and are the only children’s hospice in the West Midlands, so our services are always needed.
Acorns steps in to care for children approaching the end of their lives, doing everything we can to make this time as nurtured, comfortable, therapeutic and joyous as we possibly can. This includes helping families make precious memories and keepsakes. There’s space in our hospices for the whole family to stay during the end-of-life period, and we make sure that everything from their meals to their laundry is taken care of. Post bereavement, families can access therapeutic support groups.
