When a baby dies, Sands community comes together. A community that cares, supports, and finds answers to prevent more heartbreak. We’re in hospitals, homes, workplaces, and neighbourhoods. But we need to reach more people, so no-one feels alone. Build Sands community. Change Lives. Save lives.

Every day in the UK, 13 babies die and at least 1 in 6 pregnancies end in miscarriage. Often, the reasons aren’t understood, making it hard to prevent more tragedies. Families face stigma, feel lonely, and don’t always receive compassionate care. Trauma can last a lifetime. 60% of bereaved parents require psychological support. But access unfairly depends on where you live or your background. Many healthcare staff and workplaces lack training and support to provide sensitive care.

When we listen to parents, we save lives. We’ll hear from more families and work with researchers and professionals to make maternity and bereavement care safer, fairer, and equal. We’ll expand the choice of support in local communities and offer inclusive services for Black, South Asian and LGBTQ+ parents, dads and those facing domestic abuse. We’ll grow our training, so more staff in hospitals, communities, and workplaces feel confident giving sensitive support to bereaved families.
