For over a decade many mental health services in Lewisham have been cut or withdrawn completely, leaving people with little access to the support they need to improve the quality of their lives. Severe mental illness is estimated to affect 1.12% of Lewisham’s population, which is much higher than the national average of 0.95% (figures from the Office of Health Improvement & Disparities, 2021-22).

Through our creative public programme we showcase our members’ artworks, benefiting their confidence and sense of pride, and connect with the wider public on challenges and barriers surrounding mental health, especially those faced by marginalised communities. These free supportive events link us to new people and places, offering wellbeing benefits but also opening up our studio and exhibition spaces to heighten awareness of the organisation and the active role we play in the local community.
