Liberty Choir brings community volunteers into prisons to sing side by side with prisoners every week. Now in 11 prisons and growing, our full-circle model replaces silence with song, fear with confidence, isolation with connection, and despair with real hope—both inside prison and beyond the gates.

Liberty Choir tackles isolation and despair in prisons—factors linked to self-harm and suicide—by offering weekly choir sessions that build confidence, connection, and purpose. The need has never been more urgent. Gov. Dainton at HMP Send reports that 56% of women enter prison feeling depressed and 26% suicidal. She affirms that structured activities like Liberty Choir not only improve prison culture and safety but also lay the foundations for successful reintegration and long-term wellbeing.
Liberty Choir reduces self-harm and suicide risk in prison. At HMP Send, 50% of women who joined were on the At Risk register—within weeks, all had come off it. By tackling isolation and poor mental health through weekly singing sessions with volunteers, we build trust, purpose, and connection. On release, participants join our community choirs—supporting safer rehabilitation and reducing reoffending.
