Our vision is that no child should feel alone and our mission is to help young people gain the confidence and self-esteem they need to overcome barriers and realise their own unique potential. The BigGive campaign will provide 10 young people with life-changing 1:1 and targeted mentoring support.

York is a highly unequal city, and young people are at the sharp end of this, with 1 in 5 living in poverty. Our young people are less happy than the national average, and 14% say they do not have a single adult they trust to talk to about their worries – that’s over 3,500 under 18s without the foundational support they need. 25% of schoolchildren in York are persistently absent, with school attendance under 90%. this negatively impacts their learning, and disrupts parents' working lives.
Enabling strong, proactive relationships through mentoring between young people and trusted adults is at the heart of what we do. Our mentoring journey is an intensive, individualised method of early intervention augmented by targeted family support. We match a young person with a dedicated volunteer mentor, who meet weekly for a minimum of six months, cultivating a unique, trusted partnership. We are equipping young people with the skills and confidence they need to make good future choices.
