Making music with others has a hugely positive impact on young people, especially with peers from different backgrounds & cultures. In recent times, live collaborations and creative exchange with organisations and communities outside of the UK has become harder and a lot more expensive. These financial barriers always have a bigger impact on people from less affluent backgrounds and many young people miss out on the invaluable experience of working with peers from another country.
As part of an ongoing partnership, the Karlsruhe youth orchestra 'JOK' will visit Nottingham for a creative exchange programme with the Robin Hood Youth Orchestra in July 2026. The two orchestras will rehearse together & perform at various venues, including a civic ceremony in Nottingham. The tour will impact young people’s decisions to continue with their musical learning in future and also lead to lifelong friendships with their German peers.
