Sport can transform a girl’s life, building resilience, leadership, joy, self-belief and a powerful sense of belonging. Across the UK, girls are dreaming of becoming the next Red Rose, the next Lioness, the next Olympic champion. But those dreams don’t match their reality. Girls still have fewer teams, fewer single-sex opportunities and too few female coaches. Right now, girls are being left behind: 24% fewer girls than boys play team sport. That gap isn’t fair – and it isn’t inevitable. We’re fundraising to change this. Together, we can give every girl the chance to play, to grow and to dream without limits. Girls have been denied the same access to sport that boys enjoy. They face fewer opportunities, outdated stereotypes and far less encouragement. Almost half of girls (45%) say people think sport is ‘for boys and doesn’t matter for girls’ compared with just 5% of boys. These are lost chances for girls to experience the joy, fulfilment and lifelong benefits of sport.

Women in Sport is fighting for a future where every girl can step onto the pitch without barriers or bias. Yet too many are pushed out of sport by gender stereotypes and systems that weren’t built for them. We exist to change this. Through powerful research, bold advocacy and collaboration across sport and society, we expose inequality and drive solutions that give girls and women the chance to thrive. Together, we can create a sporting world where no one is left on the sidelines.
