Wetter winters mean many of the Commons’ paths become muddy, waterlogged and impassable. This limits access and forces people off the paths, damaging the surrounding habitats. Your support will help rebuild paths — protecting nature and improving the experience of walking in this winter wonderland.

Many of the Commons paths are in urgent need of improvement. Our priority is to restore the most-used routes - those that connect places and pass through sensitive habitats that need protection. Without proper surfacing, winter damage erodes the paths, leaving potholes and uneven ground that worsen over time. By investing in path improvements, we can protect the Commons habitats and create a safer, more enjoyable experience for everyone.

We will focus on rebuilding the most popular well-used routes that become impassable in winter. Better paths mean people stick to them, protecting nature and ensuring year-round access. Using the recommendations from a hydrology study we will create paths that direct water away from footpaths and towards the habitats that need it most. With your support, we can create paths that are accessible and environmentally sensitive—ensuring everyone can enjoy the Commons, all year round.
