The UK is experiencing a poverty emergency. 4.5 million children are growing up in poverty – that’s 9 children in every classroom. This has immediate and long-term consequences. It damages their health, wellbeing and life chances, and it limits their aspirations for the future. One child recently told us that ‘growing up in poverty is growing up in fear, and no child should have to go through that’. The damage caused by a childhood in poverty will be felt for the rest of these children’s lives.
Buttle’s Chances for Children grants give children in poverty and crisis the essentials they need and the hope they deserve. Each grant is based on a child’s specific needs, funding things like clothes, toys, laptops, furniture, clubs, bikes and more. Our grants help children to live a life that feels more like other children’s. They increase aspirations and show them that change is possible.
