Deafness is a hidden disability and can have a profound impact on a deaf person’s opportunities, relationships, and wellbeing. It can totally isolate a person, destroying their confidence and taking away their independence. Deafness can also exacerbate loneliness and depression and increase the risk of dementia. Sadly, deaf children are four times more likely than hearing children to experience mental health issues.

Being partnered with a hearing dog significantly improves a deaf person’s wellbeing, mental health and independence, and reduces isolation and fearfulness. We’re the only UK charity that trains and provides assistance dogs for deaf people. Our clever dogs become the ears of their partner, alerting them to important and potentially life-saving sounds, and enabling them to live without feeling afraid or vulnerable. Our hearing dogs support their partners for 10-12 years – that’s life-changing.
